Since our very first meeting at a local jazz jam in the winter of 2022, it was love at first sight! Vocalist Sophia de Leon Sánchez (our original member who now lives in California), vocalist Sonia Oyola and guitarist Aylon Samouha immediately fell for each other’s sound and vibe over pizza, then knew a band had to be formed! Our friends, Jorge Orozco and Leo Peña soon joined and a dear friend and fan, Juliet inspired our name and ta-daaaa…we were Libélulas! We’ve performed everything from Mexican boleros, Afro-brazilian jazz (like bossa nova), beloved classics by Elvis and the Beatles around Chicago at places like Ciao! Cafe, Borellis and Irazu! Our style is free and improvisational imbued with the love we have for each other, the music and our beloved audiences. Our residency will be held every 3rd Sunday of June, July, August and September! Hope you can join us for all of the Sundays or at least one! XOXO

Chicago cabaret artists Catherine Thomson and Anita Kallen, the HERstory duo, are thrilled to be returning to Skokie Theatre with a new show for 2024 - #3 in their HERstory series. Audiences will remember their past musical celebrations of the 19th Amendment & Voting Rights (HERstory I) and Trailblazing Women (HERstory II). This year Anita and Catherine are celebrating the famous and not-so-famous women songwriters who have contributed to Tin Pan Alley, the Great American Songbook, the Broadway canon, and contemporary popular music, with songs that span the decades. With music direction by the award-winning Beckie Menzie and percussion by Irwin Berkowitz, Anita and Catherine share songs by composers and lyricists from Carolyn Leigh, Dorothy Fields, and Dana Seusse, to Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Gloria Estefan, among others, and entertain audiences with inspiring stories of how these women became part of the soundtrack of our lives. Check out video clips from the show‘s debut: https://youtu.be/yE0I_RdSKEc Details and tickets here: https://gopher-halibut-ga77.squarespace.com/herstory and learn more about HERstory Musical Shows at Anita and Catherine’s website: HerstoryMusicalShows.com.
