Legendary jazz pianists, singers, and songwriters, Blossom Dearie and Dave Frishberg were also great friends. The pair played and sang their hits "Peel Me a Grape"and "My Attorney Bernie" for the first time together at Michael‘s Pub in New York, which had 2 grand pianos. The New York Times reviewer said "the blend of their voices is colored by subtle nuances". Blossom and Dave were both involved musically in the TV show Schoolhouse Rock. Frishberg was Grammy nominated 4 times for "Best Jazz Vocals" and Blossom was Grammy nominated for "Best Recording for Children".
Celebrating the satire, wit, and clever music of Dave and Blossom is the Chicago jazz duo Anne Burnell and Mark Burnell with special guest Carla Gordon, and Scott Mason on bass.
Recording artists Anne Burnell & Mark Burnell tour internationally with their unique arrangements of the Great American Songbook, jazz standards, vintage pop, a cappella, and originals. Mark earned two music degrees from Carnegie Mellon and taught there for 10 years. The Burnells are Chicago DCASE Grant award recipients, Illinois Arts Tour artists, and on the Chicago Band Roster. Anne served as the Chicago Cabaret President from 2019-2023. Awards include: Gold Coast Award 2024, Music Director Award 2025, and the Excellence in Cabaret Service Award 2024.
Carla Gordon is a singer/songwriter, director, producer, and parodist extraordinaire. Cabaret is her love and passion, and she is the current President of Chicago Cabaret Professionals, and on the board of the American Songbook Association.
Experience a nostalgic afternoon as crooner Nick Pontarelli takes the Arcada Theater stage in St. Charles with his 18-piece orchestra, paying tribute to the legendary Frank Sinatra. This unique show also features Close To Karen, celebrating the timeless melodies of Karen Carpenter by talented drummer and singer, Gina Knight. Although these two icons had their own illustrious careers, together they create an unforgettable experience that showcases exceptional musicianship. Don’t miss your chance to relive classic hits by two of the Chicago area‘s top artists with an entertaining full band and feel the magic of their combined legacies. This is a show you won’t want to miss on the big stage!
