Ready, Set, Show! – How to Prepare for Your Cabaret Show with Carla Gordon

Whether you are presenting your debut cabaret show or have presented many shows, "Ready, Set, Show!" will give you practical tips and Dos and Don’ts for effectively entertaining your cabaret audience.  In the context of Chicago-based resources, we will discuss musical director selection and etiquette, patter, humor, storytelling, and so much more.  Carla will be sharing tips from major national cabaret intensives.  Come and learn!

 

 

About Carla:

Carla Gordon holds the Chicago Cabaret Professionals’ Gold Coast Award---it’s highest award to a Chicago-based singer.  She is a singer/songwriter, director, and producer, and the voice of Cabaret Scenes Magazine in Chicago.  The Chicago Tribune cited Carla among “Chicago’s most accomplished cabaret performers -- a major player in Chicago cabaret.”  Cabaret Scenes Magazine called her a “Honey-voiced wisecracker!”  Ageless Magazine called her performance as Sophie Tucker, “A gem!” Gordon has appeared at The Acorn, in Three Oaks Michigan, The University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, The Metropolitan Room, Club Pangea, the Green Room 42 and Chelsea Tables, in NYC.  She has entertained at Cabaret du Jour and The Palace in south Florida and at The Sheldon in St. Louis. She created the touring show, Blacklisted—Songs McCarthy Didn’t Want You to Hear which was the subject of a feature article in the Chicago Tribune and has toured nationally to consistent standing ovations. Smash Magazine wrote about her performance in Cooking With Bubbie at the Skokie Theatre, “You’ll Love her and want to take her home.” Her songs have been selected for the Chicago Humanities Festival and aired on WFMT’s Midnight Special.  Gordon’s writing partners include Michelle Brourman, Mark Burnell, Elizabeth Doyle, Shelly Markham, Beckie Menzie, and Wayne Richards.  She writes custom lyrics for singers around the country.  Gordon serves on the Board of Skokie Theatricals where she has directed annual fundraisers including The Envelope, Please, and Borscht Belt Buddies with David Meulemans. She is the current president Chicago Cabaret Professionals for which she has directed numerous programs including most recently Passing the Torch as part of its Musical Mondays series. She has been invited to appear in the 2027 Provincetown Cabaret Festival.

 

Registration:

Participation is capped at 20 participants. Your participation will be confirmed upon receipt of the $10 workshop fee ($15 to non-members).
