BECKIE MENZIE
singer, pianist

“You could swear she lived every moment of the song. Her voice is thick like a summer rain ... sumptuous playing.”
-- Justin Hayford, The Chicago Reader

“Menzie’s warm voice and unerring phrasing give dimension and vitality to music...in Menzie’s voice and trained fingers on piano, her music dances and aches with life.”
-- Deborah Sederberg, News Dispatch

“...delivers not only a beautifully solid vocal performance (we always knew she could sing) but also a well-grounded characterization. Her Bus From Amarillo is a truly touching moment.”
-- Marsha Fulmer, Elkhart Truth

“Beckie Menzie, Chicago’s ‘diva-in-demand,’ has released her long-awaited debut disc Heart & Soul, and it is a heartfelt and soulful musical experience.”
-- Gregg Shapiro, Boston Bay Windows

“...strong, smoky vocals, inventive keyboard playing and the rare ability to live a song, not just sing it.”
-- Bill Carlton, Fort Wayne News Sentinel

“One of Chicago’s top cabaret dolls, where ever her musical road leads, it’s always a delight.” -- Jeff Rossen, After Dark

Two-time winner of Chicago’s After Dark “Outstanding Cabaret Artist” award, Beckie performs regularly in Chicago at Gentry on State, Maxim’s, and at Davenports. The Chicago Tribune calls her “a cunningly intelligent performer, her vocals more sumptuous and her pianism more virtuosic than ever.” She has been a featured performer several times at the Cabaret Conventions in both New York City and Chicago, as well as the ASCAP, Chicago Humanities Festival Songwriters Now, and A Woman Wrote That Song concerts.

Beckie is an accomplished songwriter, and some of her original songs are featured on her nationally acclaimed CDs. Her most recent release is “Real Emotional Girl” which Cabaret Scenes has called “one of the year’s finest.” Both that and her first CD “Heart & Soul” are an eclectic mix of classic ballads, standards, jazz favorites and featuring three of her original compositions. Billboard and Back Stage magazines also recognized Beckie for her vocals and musical arrangements on both of singer Tom Michael’s CDs.

Beckie is incredibly proud of her collaborations with friend and singing partner, Tom Michael and that Chicago Tribune calls them “one of the more compelling duos working in cabaret today.” Together they tour the country and perform at private parties with their shows:
