CLAUDIA HOMMEL
Actor - Singer
|
"...a
latter-day female counterpart to Maurice Chevalier, she
offers an unspoken guarantee that you'll think you paid
for the evening in euros."
--Neil Tesser, Chicago Reader "Critic's Choice"
"Miss
Hommel's voice can be strong and soaring, and she uses it to
excellent dramatic effect."
-- John S. Wilson, The New York Times
"So
spectacular, so commanding a presence. She has a smooth,
rich voice... at once sexy and sophisticated, stunning
in an Audrey Hepburn sort of way."
-- Judy Marcus, North Shore Magazine
"The
evocation of every French chanteuse from those painted
by Toulouse-Lautrec through Yvette Guilbert and on to Edith
Piaf."
-- Paul Edson, Detroit Center News
"Claudia
is gifted and uniquely versatile, with deep emotional commitment
or zany satirical high-jinx and everything in between."
-- Alvin Epstein, American Repertory Theatre, Cambridge

A "favorite" from the Club at Symphony Center to the Musée de Montmartre, Claudia Hommel is a "bit of Audrey Hepburn, with something of Ginger Rogers, Leslie Caron, Maurice Chevalier and ...Air Jordan." Born in Paris, Claudia specializes in combining international art songs, American Standards and French chansons to create character and drama. Her cabaret concerts are custom-made for recital halls, theatres, outdoor festivals, nightclubs and restaurants, accompanied by piano, accordion, jazz ensemble or orchestra.
Claudia brings Parisian cabaret programs and workshops to secondary school and university campuses. On faculty at the DePaul Community Music School, Claudia leads "songshop" classes in song interpretation at home and on tour.
You can now travel with Claudia to Paris for her annual "Cabaret Intourludes". Her offerings for private parties were selected for North Shore Magazine's "Top Ten Ideas for the Best Party Ever". You can hear her on three Maison Clobert albums: Paris/Paree, Paris in the Jazz Age, and Romance Language: French songs for lovers, with violinist Johnny Frigo.
